About Us
In 1957, Adeline Reed started “The Music Box” on Main Street of Flemington. She told us that it was one tiny room with one piano and one organ, some sheet music and
records, and a music lesson room. By 1959, the Music Box expanded to two locations. More instruments were added to the first shop, and a new lesson facility located across the street.
Adeline became known as “Mrs. Music.”
In 1963, “Derf” Nolde (Formerly a Rutgers music professor, purchased the business on Main Street and renamed it Nolde’s Music Box. Further expansion
forced moving to Hunterdon Shopping Center in the mid-60’s. The new music scene, Beatles and Rock ‘N Roll, created such an interest in music that guitars
became the rage for the late 60’s and most of the 70’s. The Nolde’s operation kept expanding into 2 divisions, Pianos & Organs, and Guitars, Drums & Amps.
In 1979, Rick Parker purchased the Guitar Division from Nolde and the two businesses were side-by-side.
In 1985, Derf Nolde sold the piano business to Joe Dorio, a 13 year employee
and long time customer. Dorio purchased the guitar division from Parker in 1987 and now operates Nolde’s Pianos & Organs and Flemington Music Centre as two companies.
Over the past 40 years, Adeline Reed, Derf Nolde, Rick Parker and Joe Dorio have been committed to one thing, music appreciation as a means of self-fulfillment for all ages. Because of this commitment to music, other things
have fallen nicely into place. Sales figures continue to grow, even during economically trying times.
Top quality products have found a home in Flemington, and we continue to
offer some of the finest instruments in the world at reasonable prices.
Our factory trained service personnel are ready when you call and our teaching faculty is ready to teach you how to play the instrument you’ve purchased.
Thank you for taking a moment to get to know us.
Sincerely, Joseph K Dorio, Sr., President Noldes’ Piano & Organs, Inc.
